BIKERS are invited to try for themselves the updated versions of BMW’s three most popular motorbikes at their BMW Motorrad dealer.

Motorcyclists can book ride-outs on the modified R 1200 RT tourer and the R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure sports bikes, which all now feature four-valve, double overhead camshaft boxer twin engines, previously only seen on the HP2 Sport.

Optimised to suit each bike, the dynamic 1,170cc engine has an increased 88ft lb of torque at 6,000rpm and offers 110hp at 7,750rpm, a 5% increased output for the R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure. Overall the models now boast improved torque, traction, pulling power and acceleration.

The R 1200 RT, available from £11,775, has also undergone several non-engine related enhancements to improve its sophistication and agility as a high-mileage tourer.

As well as an updated Electronic Suspension Adjustment system (ESA II) the bike now boasts a redesigned cockpit with visor and restyled fairing with improved wind and weather protection. A new USB, MP3 and iPod audio system has also been added, operated through a multi-controller on the handlebars.

A BMW spokesman said: “BMW keep on looking at ways to give motorcyclists the best possible ride and these three bikes are great examples of this.

“The new four-valve, twin cam engine makes the tourer and Adventure Sports bikes even more attractive as it ensures a powerful ride.

“We’re eager to see the response from customers at first hand and would like to invite motorbike enthusiasts in the region to contact their dealer and take one out for a spin.”
