Santa Pod
Santa Pod Raceway is backing the IMI initiative for the third year running.

THE home of European drag racing, the Santa Pod Raceway, has confirmed its backing for careers and teaching for a third year.

The venue is supporting the Institute of the Motor Industry’s (IMI) Autocity careers and teaching resources by offering free passes to groups from schools and colleges at the 2014 FIA European Drag Racing Championship first round practice day, and at the National Finals event.

Santa Pod will be inviting students or apprentices who are part of the IMI’s 1st Gear or Accelerate communities, as well as groups from schools and colleges who use the IMI’s Autocity resources, to enjoy the racing and find out more about automotive and motorsport careers opportunities on either Friday, May 23 or Saturday, September 20 completely free of charge.

The FIA Championship UK round takes place on Friday, May 23 and attracts over 250 of Europe’s top drag racing teams including 300mph Top Fuel Dragsters, 200mph Drag Bikes and over 10 supporting classes. Jet Cars, stunts, air displays, monster trucks, traders, sideshows and Live Action Arena family entertainment.

The National Drag Racing Championship Finals for MSA Pro Mod and national sportsman classes plus Top Methanol, Wild Bunch, Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association and the ACU National Drag Bike Championship including Super Twins takes place on Saturday, September 20.

IMI careers development manager Emily Hakansson said: “Motorsport is often a key gateway for young people who later go on to become motor industry professionals; therefore we are extremely excited to have Santa Pod back onboard with our careers activities in 2014.

“Not only will these school and college days offer a great opportunity to inspire young people considering career options, but drag racing also offers an often overlooked pathway for young people seriously looking for opportunities to make the jump into motorsport careers. I’m sure those who attend these events will find it both a fun and extremely useful experience.”

Passes need to be pre-booked at least a week before the event, groups should contact donna@santapod.com quoting ‘IMI Schools Offer’ and individuals should contact Emily Hakansson at the IMI on emilyh@motor.org.uk. Please note all groups will need to send Santa Pod a risk assessment before the day; an example is available.
