Hyundai i800 campervan achieves double delight

The Hyundai i800 campervan with its roof opened up.

A HYUNDAI i800-based campervan has achieved two major successes for its manufacturer, Wellhouse Leisure.
The company is celebrating after its campervan won the 2012 Motor Caravan Award and gained full approval from the UK trade organisation, the National Caravan Council.
A delighted Wellhouse boss David Elliott said: “Going for, and getting, NCC approval is one thing, but to top that by picking up the Caravan Industry Motor Caravan Award was just unbelievable.
“Joining the National Caravan Council is usually only a consideration for larger-scale caravan and motorhome producers. It took a considerable amount of negotiation before we were allowed to join.
“But, since we got involved with Hyundai we’ve been determined to do everything as properly as possible. That’s why the next logical step was to seek approval from the NCC for our Hyundai-based campervan.”
The 2012 Motor Caravan Award win was particularly satisfying. Working on behalf of the trade magazine Caravan Industry, a team of 33 judges assessed the latest models from all the manufacturers represented at this year’s Motorhome and Caravan Show, at Birmingham’s NEC. This is the annual showcase exhibition for the UK’s growing leisure vehicle industry.
Mr Elliott said he and his team are overjoyed with this recognition, the third major prize the Hyundai has collected since its launch a year ago, something which is almost unheard of within the industry.
“Things just keep getting better. To keep winning major, independent awards such as this really is fantastic. I’m particularly pleased for the team that have worked so long and so hard on the whole Hyundai project,” he said.
