Croft gearing up for BSB stars on track

Action-packed racing to look forward to as BSB stars head to Croft.

CROFT Circuit in North Yorkshire is gearing up to welcomes the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship – the UK’s premier motorcycle race series – as it makes its only visit of the year to the North East in 2011 on the weekend of 13-15 May.
Croft’s BSB fixture is one of the region’s biggest and most exciting sporting events of the year. Traditionally, huge numbers of people from Cumbria, Durham, the Borders, North and South Yorkshire and often further afield descend on the Darlington circuit to see the spectacular BSB in action.
Adding to the interest is the local team to Croft, the Guisborough-based Swan Yamaha squad, which sensationally leads the championship with its rider Tommy Hill thanks to a race victory in the opening round at Brands Hatch. Heading to Oulton Park, Cheshire this coming weekend, Hill currently holds a slender four-point lead at the top of the table ahead of HM Plant Honda’s former double champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne. The early form guide suggests Croft’s two races will be between these two plus their respective team-mates Michael Laverty and Ryuichi Kiyonari of Japan, the latter the reigning BSB Champion with three titles in all to his name.
Croft Circuit manager Tracey Morley commented: “We cannot wait for the BSB to arrive at Croft – the championship never fails to put on a fantastic show and this really is an event not to be missed. In fact the BSB is more than just a motor sport event – it is a huge social occasion for people to come and enjoy whether they be seasoned or casual motorbike fans or families looking for an exciting day out. Certainly, we hope our free-for-children policy appeals to them. In addition, our ‘open paddock’ enables the public to rub shoulders with the star BSB riders and there’s also the opportunity to meet them during the morning pit lane autograph session.
“Furthermore, on track over the weekend there will five very exciting supporting categories to look forward to as well as plenty of off-track entertainment. The atmosphere here at Croft on BSB weekend will be something else.”
