Do you understand what your car’s telling you?

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS DASHBOARD WARNING MEANS?

Do you know what this sign means if it appeared on your car’s dashboard? Many drivers don’t.

a) Faulty Fairy Lights
b) Power Steering Failure
c) Lost Wheel Spoke

Guaranteed to test the most accomplished motorists, Breakdown Cover and Road Safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist is once again offering its free Christmas Quiz.  Following last year’s successful Road Sign challenge, GEM has this year decided to test the family’s knowledge of dashboard warning lights.
Bound to keep the whole party entertained on Christmas Day, the quiz contains 15 dashboard warning light symbols.  All each team has to do is identify what they mean.  Set to spark an interesting debate, now’s the time to find out if you know your front fog lights from your back ones or your brake fluid from your engine oil.
If you want to submit your score you can enter yourself into a prize draw to win a year’s free joint breakdown cover.
David Williams, CEO of GEM Motoring Assist said: “Christmas Day is often full of the same old games, so we are delighted to be able to offer families an alternative that is designed to be fun and informative.  When we attend call out situations some drivers have absolutely no idea what the warning lights mean and some breakdowns have occurred because people have ignored the warning and continued with their journey.
“While we hope people have fun with the quiz, we also want to help drivers learn the signs so they are as safe as possible on the roads and with luck, avoid any unnecessary breakdowns, especially during the cold and hazardous winter months.”
The steering wheel symbol with the exclamation mark, pictured above, means “Fault or failure within the power assisted steering system”.
The full quiz is available to download from www.motoringassist.com/dashboardquiz or you can request a hard copy by calling 01342 825676.
The answers to the quiz can also be found at www.motoringassist.com/dashboardquiz.  The winner of the breakdown cover will be announced on January 4, 2011.
And remember, no cheating.
