4×4 prices rise as snow comes down

Cold snap sees demand increase at auction houses for 4x4s.

AS the winter weather looks set to continue for several more days at least, auction firm BCA has reported a surge in interest in 4x4s sold at its auction centres around the UK.

For many motorists, particularly those living in rural or remote areas, a 4×4 is fast becoming a necessity in winter rather than a luxury.

BCA’s Tim Naylor says:  “As the temperature drops, we have seen 4×4 values rise quite sharply.  Values for some models climbed by around 5% in November, compared to similar vehicles bought in the previous month.”

“However, even accounting for the rising prices following the early onset of winter, buyers should still be able to find a good deal on a 4×4 at auction.”

BCA advises potential buyers to opt for the best specification they can find within their set budget, particularly on large 4x4s as this will help the vehicle maintain its value in the years ahead.

“Nothing makes a four-wheel-drive more attractive than a dusting of snow” added Mr Naylor.  “And the last few days weather has certainly stirred interest in 4x4s.”
