Tesco helps a little when it’s time for a new car

No pressure – Tesco says buying a car on line should be hassle free.

TESCO has announced the launch of Tesco Cars (www.tescocars.com), a brand new online service giving customers direct access to thousands of great value, well maintained, independently checked used cars, without the hassle, stress or sales pressure typically associated with the industry.
In dealing head-on with much of the criticism and fear of buying a used car, Tesco Cars aims to make the whole experience easier, safer, more transparent and more enjoyable, by putting the customer firmly in control with a unique money-saving car buying experience.
By supplying direct to customers, Tesco Cars is able to offer savings over the traditional forecourt on a range of nearly new and used models. From family-sized MPVs, fuel-efficient city cars and well-specified executive saloons, customers also benefit from the convenience and control of buying online in a ‘no risk’ alternative to the often-pressured sales environment of the dealership.
Trust, value and service are at the heart of the Tesco Cars experience.
For buyer peace of mind, each vehicle must meet the Tesco Cars Standard. This means it must pass a 167-point independent RAC PLUS inspection (including a ramp inspection and road test), and have a clear HPI history check. Typically most cars will also have a service history and further reassurance is provided by a comprehensive RAC platinum warranty. Each listing displays multiple images of the vehicle together with a unique video of RAC test-drive allowing buyers to get an accurate assessment of the car’s condition.
Buyers are supported by a dedicated Customer Support Agent; and Tesco Cars will even deliver the vehicle direct to the new owner’s home for a fixed transport charge of £149 to anywhere in mainland UK.
For those unsure which model to choose, an innovative Lifestyle Search facility allows visitors to quickly locate a car to fit their budget, space or performance preferences.
If they so choose, customers will be able to benefit from after-sales servicing support from a nationwide network of over 1,000 independent garages operating through an arrangement with National Service Network (NSN) and providing servicing and general vehicle repairs up to 30% cheaper than franchise dealers.
Sir Trevor Chinn, Chairman of Tesco Cars, comments: ‘When buying a used car, consumers want to know they can trust the information supplied, that they are getting value for money and a good product, all supported by good customer service. Importantly they also want to be able to take their time to make the right purchase for them.
By marrying these principles, the success of the Tesco brand, and the transparent and unpressured online sales environment, we believe we will be delivering a positive new experience for today’s car buyer.’
Andrew Higginson, CEO of Retailing Services at Tesco, said: ‘Trust, value and service are at the heart of the Tesco Cars experience. The range of models – from electric cars designed for the city to family-sized MPVs – is immense. By supplying directly to customers, they can be sure they are getting the best value out there. And we will say ‘thank you’ with 2,000 Clubcard points which can be redeemed for goods, services and rewards in the usual way.’
