Peugeot 208 GTi hot hatch price revealed

THE new Peugeot 208 GTi hot hatch will cost from £18,895 when the order book opens at the beginning of next month ahead of deliveries in April.

Available only as a three-door, the new GTi not only boasts a wider track than the regular 208, but also has body sill and wing extensions.

There are also sports springs, recalibrated dampers, revised anti-roll bars and steering tuned to make it firmer, along with 17-inch Diamond Carbon alloys in a matt varnish.

Beneath the bonnet is a 1.6-litre THP 200bhp petrol engine – also used in the Peugeot RCZ coupe – and capable of hitting 62mph from zero in less than seven seconds.

It can also accelerate from 50 to 75mph in less than 7.0 seconds in fifth gear and the car’s light weight keeps CO2 emissions down to 145g/km.

Inside, the car’s colour scheme blends red, black and satin chrome with red GTi overstitching throughout, the seats combining Club Nappa leather and cloth.

Peugeot 208 GTi dynamics manager Marie Beaumont said: “The 208 was an excellent base for developing a sports hatchback. We have worked with particular attention on the steering response, the chassis dynamics and the rigidity of the suspension.”
