New M5 pushes the bar higher still

The 2012 BMW M5

It was great and now it’s even better!

THE fifth generation of BMW’s highly successful performance saloon, the M5, is reaching showrooms now.
In the last two and a half decades the M5 saloon has epitomised the segment. Sleek, powerful and great to drive.
Now it has even more power (up 10 per cent), more torque to give that all-important power surge and yet fuel consumption is down by 30 per cent!
This M5 raises the standard of premium executive saloons with its combination of track car handing and touring comfort.
But it’s not just under the bonnet the M5 is improved. The body shape has been  honed around the technical needs of the engineering and the luxury cabin offers a range of driver aids and other systems.
The engine is a turbocharged 4.4-litre unit developing 560hp from 5,750-7,000rpm giving lots of thrust with seamless lag-free delivery. The latest M5 can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.4 seconds, and 0-124mph in only 13 seconds. The voluntarily limited top speed is 155mph. All this is coupled to BMW’s seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic and Efficient Dynamics technology, including engine Auto Start-Stop and Brake Energy Regeneration.
This latest M5 gives the driver the safety net of a sophisticated and responsive traction control system but allows the driving thrill to come through.
As you may expect, the M5 offers an extensive range of standard and optional equipment. Standard equipment in the UK includes Head-up Display, DAB digital radio, front and rear Park Distance Control, four-zone air-conditioning, Xenon headlights, Adaptive Headlights and front seat heating. With Professional Multimedia Navigation system and BMW Assist, a new real-time traffic information service plus Bluetooth and USB audio interface as standard.
Optional equipment including a rear-view camera, High-Beam Assistant, Speed Limit information, Lane Change and Lane Departure warnings, Surround View and BMW Night Vision ensure the driver is aware of anything and everything happening within the vicinity of the car.
Pop down to your BMW dealership now and you can pick one up for £73,040 on the road.
