Maserati has eyes on SUV market

Maserati is looking to move into the SUV market.

MASERATI is shaking up the luxury sports SUV market by unveiling a potential new player in the segment.
The Italian company feels that other offerings in the market don’t offer the sort of driving pleasure and luxury ambience that high end sports and luxury cars should have.
So they have decided they should do something about it. A new area for the company, it is keen that it should still be a Maserati, with all that implies.
And it is no stranger to the idea, having showcased the Kubang concept car at Detroit in 2003, showing even then its thoughts in this direction.
It aims to use the knowledge of its sister brand Jeep, which itself created a whole new market area 70 years ago and is still a market leader in SUVs.
But it won’t be a Jeep… in fact, it will be the new Maserati Kubang!
All major components will unmistakably be Maserati: style, engine, suspensions, brakes, handling and performance will all be 100 per cent Maserati to reflect its core values of sportiness, style, elegance, luxury, performance and craftsmanship. The design comes from the Maserati Style Center headed by Lorenzo Ramaciotti.
The latest Maserati engines will power the Kubang and will be built in Maranello by Ferrari. They will be coupled to an AT eight-speed automatic transmission system.
Up to now Maserati has built sedans, coupes and two- or four-seater convertibles. Whether Quattroporte, GranTurismo or GranCabrio, Ghibli, Mistral, Bora or Indy, what they all had in common was sportiness and luxury. Maserati say they can also take the form of a very dynamic looking and high performing sport luxury SUV.
