Ferraris go under the hammer

308 GTS
This 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalve was one of the marque to go under the hammer.

A COLLECTION of superb Ferraris had the pulses racing and the bids flying at Silverstone Auctions.

Held in The Wing at the Northamptonshire circuit, the Autumn Sale saw the hammer go down on more than £1-million of motors.

Going under the hammer were six of Maranello’s finest with a beautiful and low mileage 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalve topping the bill, finally selling for a premium inclusive £88,550.

Buyers from all over the world fought hard to secure some wonderful examples of the increasingly popular Ferrari 308. A 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS sold for a premium inclusive £52,900, more than £12,000 over its lower estimate, while a highly original dry-sump 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB sold for £58,075, more than £13,000 over its lower estimate. The elegant and understated 1988 Ferrari 412 GT sold for a premium inclusive £ 21,562.

The sale got off to great start with a concours condition 1951 GMC Pick-Up selling for a premium inclusive £22,080, more than £9,000 over its lower estimate. Barn find Aston Martins proved in demand as ever with a 1978 V8 Series III selling for £ 22,425 and a 1970 DBS selling for £ 33,350.

Speaking after the sale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, Nick Whale, said: “Some great results have been achieved here at our final sale of the year at The Wing. As always we brought together a fantastic range of cars and hope our vendors are as happy with the results as we are. ”

Having spent 15 years in storage and in need of restoration, the very first production spec Lynx Eventer, one of just 67 produced, caught the eye of bidders selling for a premium inclusive £28,750. A rare and highly sought after 1989 BM3 E30 M3 Johnny Cecotto hit top estimate selling for £40,250.

Nick added: “We now look forward to our final sale of the year at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor at the NEC, Birmingham. Some great cars have already been entered into the two day sale on the 15th and 16th of November and so I would encourage potential vendors to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
