BBR and Cosworth give MX-5 more Zoom-Zoom

Supercharger will boost MX-5’s power to 235bhp

TUNING company BBR has joined forces with Cosworth Engineering to deliver an exciting performance upgrade package for the latest MX-5 sportscar.
The BBR-Cosworth collaboration unleashes a supercharger conversion for the Mk3, 2.0-litre MX-5 that centres around a fourth generation Eaton MP62 supercharger. A compact, reliable, quiet design that’s well proven in original equipment fitments across the world, the Eaton supercharger is mated to a Cosworth designed cast integral inlet manifold, which is optimised for both performance and fuel economy.

In standard trim the Mk3 Mazda MX-5  2.0-litre engine puts out 158bhp. The BBR-Cosworth supercharger upgrade increases the power output to a dyno proven 235bhp at 7130rpm, with a healthy 190lb ft of torque available at 5260 rpm. Crucially the progressive nature of the power delivery means the delicate dynamic balance of the MX-5 isn’t upset, yet naturally with a power gain of 77bhp and a torque increase of 51lb.ft performance is transformed for the better.
The MX5 BBR-Cosworth supercharger system, which is exclusive to BBR, is now available for installation at BBR’s Brackley, Northamptonshire, fitting centre, located six miles south of the Silverstone Grand Prix racing circuit.
The fitted price for the BBR-Cosworth Mazda MX-5 Mk3 supercharger upgrade is £4995. BBR will also be supplying BBR-Cosworth kits for DIY fitting, complete with all options and full installation instructions.

Earlier cars haven’t been forgotten either. To celebrate the 1990 launch of the original MX-5 BBR turbo, BBR has announced a 20th Anniversary turbo conversion package for the Mazda MX-5 model range, covering Mk1 and Mk2 versions of the world’s most popular sports cars, in both 1.6 and 1.8-litre capacities. BBR’s relaunched turbo kit transforms the much loved Mazda MX-5 into a serious driving machine, elevating its performance from sedate to electrifying.
BBR’s in-house expertise and experience with the Mazda MX-5 enables it to build upon the overwhelming success of the original 1990 150bhp MX-5 turbo kit, updating and enhancing the design to produce a stunning, dyno proven 220bhp plus from just 1.6-litres.

Turbo conversions will transform the performance of earlier cars, too.
